Thomas
G. Bognanno has been the President and CEO of Community Health Charities of
America since January of 2006. Prior to that Mr. Bognanno had a distinguished
20-year career with the American Diabetes Association, working his way through
different roles, starting as Executive Director for the former ADA New Mexico
and Missouri affiliates and Executive Vice President for the Texas affiliate.
He was promoted to Special Assistant to the CEO in 1998 before moving into the
role of Chief Field Officer in 2003. Prior to his years with ADA, he spent six
years with the American Cancer Society in Arizona and New Mexico.
Among
his key accomplishments in his role of Chief Field Officer, Tom was
instrumental in revitalizing the community level infrastructure of ADA, and in
bringing volunteer and staff development back as a priority for the
organization. He also was one of the chief architects of the Everyday
Choices for a Healthier Life partnership between the ADA, the American
Heart Association, and the American Cancer Society.
At
Community Health Charities, Tom has been a catalyst for creating a new
direction for the organization’s more than 60 premier health-related voluntary
member charities and its network of affiliate offices. Through the initial
introduction of the Health Portal in 2006, Community Health Charities has
evolved into a full service Employee Engagement Delivery Model under Tom’s
leadership. This model is focused on strengthening our community presence,
improving brand awareness, and in accessing, opening, and servicing new
workplace giving campaigns. Currently he is leading the effort to re-align
Community Health Charities national and local organizations to optimize this
new business model. The goal is to create strategic capability across all functions
of Community Health Charities that will accelerate the ability to generate
income for our member charities.
Residing
in northern Virginia, he and his wife, Suzan, have been married more than 30
years and have raised three children; Christopher, Communications Director for
California Congressman John Campbell and pursuing his Master’s Degree at the
Naval War College; Michael, currently living in Los Angeles, California; and
Elizabeth, a recent graduate of Appalachian State University in North Carolina.
