Meet Alexa: Making Giant Strides, One Small Step at a Time

For the past few years, Lekotek leader Peggy McWilliams has conducted play sessions with parents at Northside and Scottish Rite Hospital’s neonatal units. One of the toys used during these sessions is a battery-operated mobile that can be activated by the press of a switch or “button.”

On one memorable day, Adaliz Vicen – whose 10-month-old daughter Alexa was born at 24 weeks – attached the mobile to her crib. Alexa consistently pressed the “button” placed near her small hand, enjoying the music and movement of the mobile. We don’t know who was more excited – Mom, Peggy, the baby or the nurses who have grown to love her.
