RESEARCH
To date, nearly $5 million in research grants will have been awarded to 50 scientists around the country by the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
Our comprehensive clinical trials database ensures that patients have access to the latest treatment options and leading-edge research. Clinical trial referral services are provided at no charge. PALS provided more than 1,800 peer-to-peer matches through the Survivor and Caregiver Network. These connections are made by PALS Associates between people facing pancreatic cancer and volunteers who are willing to share personal experiences and offer support, encouragement and hope.
QUALITY OF LIFE
Patient Services - More than 350,000 patients and their family members have received current and reliable information through our Patient & Liaison Services (PALS). Our comprehensive PALS program is a free call-in information program for pancreatic cancer patients, their families and health professionals. A PALS associate will provide the most current information to help make informed decisions, including information about the disease, treatment options, specialists, clinical trials, support groups and diet and nutrition. All services and educational materials are provided at no charge.
The PALS library of educational literature was expanded with new and revised booklets and fact sheets. Six booklets are now available: An Overview of Pancreatic Cancer, Diet and Nutrition, Clinical Trials, Hospice: End-of-Life Care in Pancreatic Cancer, Cáncer de Páncreas (Overview of Pancreatic Cancer in Spanish) and La Dieta y Nutrición (Diet and Nutrition in Spanish). 15 fact sheets are also now available in Spanish. Approximately 41,000 pieces of PALS educational literature were supplied free-of-charge to health professionals in hospitals and clinics across the United States. Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Symposia series are free educational events for patients, survivors, caregivers and families and friends. The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network will hold six Pancreatic Cancer Symposia this year which will cover topics such as available treatment options, clinical trials, diet and nutrition, genetics and more.
ADVOCACY
Community Outreach - The organization has 71 volunteer affiliates across the nation raising awareness and hope for those currently battling pancreatic cancer. Our affiliates help us reach patients and caregivers in their communities by distributing our PALS brochures and packets to local health professionals and cancer organizations. Placing PALS materials in oncologists’ offices, hospitals, clinics, and cancer organizations in local communities helps us get the word out to caregivers and survivors about the patient services the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network offers.
